Introducing New Mediterranean-Style Menus in All Facilities and Communities

The Alden Network recently introudced new Mediterranean-style additions to its menus throughout the company. Mediterranean-style diets – which place an emphasis on eating lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains and eating moderate amounts of fish, while using healthy fats and oils like those found in nuts, olives and avocados – have been particularly successful in helping people age well. Just some of the conditions helped by Mediterranean-style diets include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. These diets have also been shown to help improve brain health, making them ideal for people living with memory loss.

“At Alden, we have a holistic approach to care and treatment. We pay special attention to every aspect of our residents’ and patients’ health and well-being, including the importance of a nutritional diet. We’ve incorporated Mediterranean-influenced entrees and snacks, knowing that it will assist our residents and patients with overall brain and body health,” informs Dr. Jennifer Stelter, Operations Director of Clinical Programs for Alden, and a licensed Clinical Psychologist, Certified Dementia Practitioner and Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Trainer.

Chef Sal Martinez was instrumental in bringing the new focus to the menus. “Alden has always been about treating our patients and residents holistically. We don’t just see them as a set of symptoms that need to be managed. We take a look at the whole person and work to develop treatments, environments, and food that help people recover more quickly and lead healthier, more enjoyable lives.”
